Restorative Rest
The Benefit of a Pillow
I sit in this chair everyday. The chair belonged to my grandmother. Inherited it when I was 13, I think, just shy of 40 years ago. The blue flower slip cover and gigantic pillow are new.
The pillow offers support for my head, mostly, and the rest of my body leans in. Somatic Experiencing teaches that resting the head when the back of your head/neck hurts brings relief. And it does, many times immediately.
The support for neck and shoulders and head supply a relief from the stress of the day that I couldn’t have imagined 3 years ago. I would have scoffed that a pillow could make such a difference.
Yet, it does. So, if you’re overwhelmed and just can’t imagine anything might help. Or maybe think that you just don’t have time to waste on an hour of some sort of talk therapy. Get a 26×26 natural stuffed pillow and a cover for it.
Honestly, it’s the most restorative practice I’ve got right now.
